Half‐Sandwich Ruthenium Complexes Bearing Hemilabile κ <sup>2</sup> ‐( <i>C</i> , <i>S</i> )−Thioether‐Functionalized NHC Ligands: Application to Amide Synthesis from Alcohol and Amine

Amide synthesis is one of the most crucial transformations in chemistry and biology. Among various catalytic systems, N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-based ruthenium (Ru) catalyst systems have been proven to be active for direct amides by sustainable acceptorless dehydrogenative Coupling primary alcohols with amines. Most often, these usually use monodentate NHC thus require an additional ligand obtain high reactivity selectivity. In this work, a series cationic Ru(II)(η6-p-cymene) complexes thioether-functionalized ligands (imidazole benzimidazole-based) prepared fully characterized. These then used amidation reaction promising (i. e. 3 c) has applied on large range substrates. High conversions albeit moderate yields generally obtained.

Main-chain C,N-protected histidine has been successfully alkylated at both side-chain nitrogens. The corresponding histidinium salt was metallated with ruthenium(II) by a transmetalation procedure, thus providing histidine-derived NHC ruthenium complexes. These bio-inspired complexes show appreciable activity in the catalytic transfer hydrogenation of ketones.
